Flood Cuts Save Daytona Beach Home from Flood Damage
In the case of flood damage to a home, sometimes it looks worse before the completion of full restoration. Water tends to recede quickly and wicks into sheetrock and sets a house up for secondary damages such as mold, foul odors or weakening of building materials.
SERVPRO arrived at a home in Daytona Beach that had flood damage from intense storms. Groundwater entered the kitchen and laundry room. The homeowner had put down towels and attempted to mop up the water, but reported the walls felt wet and water was appearing by the baseboards. This type of water intrusion is category three, also known as “black water.” It has the potential to have toxins and contaminants. It is vital to have it professionally mitigated as quickly as possible.
Our technicians arrived on site quickly and used portable extractors to remove any remaining moisture. We scoped the affected area to determine when the water migrated in the rooms. Our moisture detectors showed the water behind baseboards, and it had wicked into the porous sheetrock. We measured where the moisture stopped in the sheetrock and performed flood cuts roughly six inches above that moisture line. We removed the baseboards as our moisture readings showed excess moisture. This action lets the wall cavities thoroughly dry.
We use air movers positioned to force high-velocity air across surfaces. This action causes even deeply rooted water vapor to rise to the surface where our dehumidifiers capture it. We use specialized equipment such as the Injecti-Dry. This setup forced air into wall cavities for thorough drying.
Once dry, SERVPRO technicians cleaned and disinfected all surfaces to ensure they were sanitary. Once cleaned, the technician offered suggestions for the necessary repairs for the areas affected by flood damage. The homeowner and adjuster agreed to work with our building services to make the full restoration of the home seamless.
