Water Damage and Homeowners Insurance

5/24/2021 (Permalink)

Does Homeowners Insurance Cover Water Damage?

Homeowner's insurance is useful in times of an emergency. Insurance allows you to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket for expenses that are related to damage to your home. Submitting a claim after your home is damaged by water helps you recover money spent on repairs. However, it is important to know that there are positive and negative points to filing a water damage insurance claim has its good points and bad points.

Water Damage Coverage

Your insurance company covers certain types of water damage. In most instances, the insurance company will cover any damage that is the result of a sudden event. For example, if the broken dishwasher leaks water and causes any water damage, you are covered by your policy. But, any damage that results from a dishwasher that malfunctions because of inadequate maintenance or neglect will not get covered.

No Coverage

An issue that homeowners face that is not covered by a regular homeowner’s insurance policy is flood damage. If a local river overflows and floods your home, the flooding is not covered by your homeowner’s insurance policy. You will need to purchase a separate insurance policy to cover flooding. This type of insurance is advised for anyone living in an area prone to flooding.

Water damage is covered through homeowner’s insurance

Unfortunately, there are some limitations to this coverage. An accident that occurs suddenly will likely get covered. However, flood damage that arises from poor maintenance may not covered by your policy. It is important to know that you may find yourself disagreeing with your insurance company about the nature of your water damage. An incident that you believe is the result of a sudden accident may not get viewed as such by your insurer. Your insurance company may argue that the damage was caused by improper maintenance of your home.

What Are The Worst Types Of Damages to Expect After Water Intrusion?

10/20/2020 (Permalink)

Water damage in your home? SERVPRO can make it "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO Helps Daytona Beach Homeowners Address Any Water Damage Incident with Minimal Challenges.

You might need professional assistance when there is a water damage incident at your Daytona Beach home because some of the effects of water exposure can be hard to reverse without the right skills. A water loss incident also evolves as time goes by, so proper management is necessary to forestall severe damages. As an IICRC certified firm, SERVPRO has a deeper understanding of water-related issues, including spread patterns, types, and timing of damages.

How does a single source lead to water damage all over Daytona Beach homes?

In most cases, our SERVPRO crews encounter water spills that originate from one area, such as a punctured water pipe or a faulty section of the roof that lets in rainwater. However, once the water breaches the interior of your house, it can spread widely in a variety of ways, including:

  • Surface flow
  • Evaporation through the air
  • Wicking through materials

Gravity-aided flow is the fastest way for water to spread around your property. Spreading through wicking and evaporation depends on the physical qualities of the materials that water comes into contact with. For example, in an area with a higher percentage of materials with hygroscopic properties such as natural fabrics, drywall, and unsealed wood, the moisture that evaporates into the air is readily absorbed, resulting in damages far from the original point where the breach occurred. Such damage might also remain unnoticed until it is too late.

What types of damage are typical after water intrusion?

  • Ruined finishes
  • Physical alteration of some materials
  • Disintegration of materials
  • Microbial growth

Various types of finishes in construction materials or other contents in your house are vulnerable to water exposure. For example, paint finishes on walls bubbles or chips when exposed to moisture, while dyes in fabrics, upholstery, or carpets run, leaving patches or stains. In some cases, the damage is worse because materials are ultimately damaged, necessitating costly and time-consuming replacements. For example, carpets can delaminate, a situation where the bonding agent fails, causing the backing to separate from the fibers. Drywall may also crumble due to overexposure to moisture, thus leading to permanent damage.

When do the damages happen?

One thing that complicates the response you have to mount against a water loss incident is that the damages do not occur uniformly. In most cases, you have to deal with issues that develop:

  • Immediately the water spills
  • When the water sits in the property for some time
  • During remedial action such as cleaning

The timing of the response and the kind of action taken are the main factors that impact the outcome of an incident. Since our SERVPRO team includes IICRC certified Applied Structural Drying Specialists, we can take different steps to mitigate the adverse effects that moisture might have on your property. On arrival at the property, we take steps to stop or even reverse instantaneous damages caused by water intrusion. This part of the restoration mostly involves the extraction of water pooling around floors and other areas such as wall cavities. We have fast extraction equipment suited for various tasks. For instance, portable extraction units help remove standing water from various floors, including wooden, tiled, or concrete. For porous floors that retain more water, we have weighted extraction equipment such as ride-on extractors, which combine vacuum lift and weight to remove water from saturated areas faster. We also have cavity extraction equipment such as drying mats which lift water trapped in floor cavities.

How can remedial action lead to damages?

Ideally, every remedial action should help improve the situation. However, it is possible for the actions you take to cause more damages. Some typical problems, including physical alterations such as stretching of carpets or moisture transfer to unaffected or concealed areas within your house. Such damages develop because of using the wrong restoration approaches or failure to balance the actions you take. For example, a carpet loses 50% of its strength when saturated with water. Therefore, some restoration procedures such as floating to quicken drying or aggressive agitation during cleaning can easily stretch them.

Our SERVPRO technicians take various precautions to prevent such unnecessary damages.  For instance, if we opt to float carpets during drying, we ensure the air movers we use operate at a moderate speed. We also ensure that the carpet is vented and secured to the tack strip to prevent flapping, which can delaminate it or even damage the surrounding walls.

Water loss incidents can lead to both expected and unexpected damages. SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach can help you manage any issue that arises, "Like it never even happened." Call us at (386) 677-9993.

How Can SERVPRO Help with Water Damage Restoration After A Bathroom Leak?

9/14/2020 (Permalink)

Bathrooms are common areas for water leaks. We can use moisture meters to detect hidden water damage.

Daytona Beach Residents Need Water Damage Restoration That Does the Job

Everyone living in Daytona Beach knows how easy it is for a leak to get started in the bathroom. The faucet might leak, the toilet might overflow, or someone might over-fill the bath. When a calamity happens in your home, you want to get it sorted out as quickly as possible.

SERVPRO offers water damage restoration services in Daytona Beach. No matter what caused the water damage in your bathroom, our trained technicians are here for you. We are always available 24/7, and we are Faster To Any Size Disaster. Whether you are facing a minor leak around the base of your sink, or a significant flood that has soaked your floor, we can remedy it.

What are the risks of water damage?

You should not ignore water damage, even if it seems mild. A bathroom leak might lead to:

  • A broken toilet or faucet
  • Ruined floor coverings
  • Water-logged towels and personal belongings
  • Water damage to walls, baseboards, the floor, and even the ceiling of the room underneath

There is also a risk of fungal growth if water damage is left untreated. Fast action is essential, which is why we recommend calling us immediately.

Why is it crucial to call a professional company for water cleanup?

We know it is tempting to save money by cleaning up water leaks yourself in Daytona Beach. However, water damage restoration is a job for professionals. Trained technicians:

  • Know the quickest and most effective ways to dry your bathroom
  • Can use thermal imaging to see how deep into the walls the water has spread
  • Have a range of pumps and extractors on hand to vacuum away water
  • Can advise you on which items to salvage, and which to toss

What can I expect when SERVPRO arrives?

After our technicians arrive and introduce themselves, they will walk through your bathroom and assess the damage. We start with a visual assessment, and we will discuss the nature of the incident with you. We also use various meters and probes to get exact moisture readings.

Once we fully understand the situation, we will draw up a drying plan and explain it to you. As soon as you confirm you are happy with the program, our team will start remediation.

Which fixtures and fittings can SERVPRO dry?

We aim to dry and repair items rather than replace them. We can dry out the floor and walls, behind baseboards, and around fittings in many cases. We can even clean and dry personal belongings such as towels or bath toys.

We cannot usually dry water-damaged cosmetics, and you will need to toss those items away. Our team will give their professional assessment on what to save and what to trash.

What happens if the damp has gotten into the walls or soaked into the floor?

Depending on the leak's source and magnitude, water might have soaked into the walls and made the drywall wet. Water can also leak behind baseboards or soak into wooden floors. SERVPRO technicians use thermal imaging, moisture probes, and non-penetrating moisture meters to assess your bathroom and adjacent rooms' damage and rooms directly below the toilet.

If we find water damage inside the walls or beneath the floors, we can remedy it. Our team can remove damaged materials and replace them. We can also help with replacing wallpaper, repainting walls, and replacing floor coverings. If the situation requires extra professionals, we oversee the new staff and ensure all their work meets our high standards.

What is the drying process?

The first step in drying is to remove as much moisture as possible from your bathroom. We achieve this by using pumps and extractors. We also remove as many personal belongings as possible, both to keep them safe and get them out of the way to position dryers and fans where needed.

When we have completed water extraction, we move on to drying the room. We place air movers, fans, and dehumidifiers, to dry the area. We train all our technicians in drying science and best practices. We monitor moisture levels before, during, and after drying to adjust our technique if necessary.

Can you help with odors?

Of course. We understand that water damage often leaves a moldy, unpleasant smell behind. Some of the tools we use include to capture smells and leave your bathroom smelling fresh include:

  • air scrubbers
  • carbon filters
  • odor removing pellets

When drying is complete, we will review our work with you and answer any concerns.

Can My Tile Floor In My Daytona Beach Kitchen Be Saved?

7/27/2020 (Permalink)

Contact SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993 for quality water mitigation services.

SERVPRO Has Flooring Experts That Can Repair and Restore Many Types of Hardwood Flooring in Daytona Beach Homes

If the dishwater overflowed or a pipe burst, causing water damage in your kitchen, it can impact your flooring. There are various types of tile flooring, and each act differently to water. Our crews have the experience and knowledge to take care of your Daytona Beach home after such an incident.

Can My Ceramic Tile be Restored?

The key to restoring anything in a Daytona Beach home that has experienced water loss is immediate water mitigation. If your home has ceramic tile that became flooded, there is a good chance we can save it. Ceramic tile and grout joints are usually waterproof if installed over plywood. Cracks in the tile are vulnerable to water seeping in through the crack. Grout can also absorb water, which can warp or expand the subflooring. The tiles then become loose. The subflooring gets dried out before the tiles get replaced.

Resilient Tile

Other types of tile, such as asphalt and vinyl, can present unique problems. Here are some things you should know about resilient tile:

    •    Asphalt tile typically maintains a good bond with the concrete underneath. White spots can appear that usually respond well to cleaning.
    •    Vinyl tile on concrete is more susceptible to problems than asphalt. If there is a great deal of water, they come loose easily.
    •    Vinyl tiles are much simpler to replace, and it may be more cost-efficient to do so then to dry them out.
    •    If the tiles get installed over wood underlayments, the flooring is likely to be water damaged.

We use non-penetrating moisture meters to find hidden water, and we dry the floor from beneath the tile to aid in restoration if needed.

How Do I Dry Behind My Walls in My Concrete Block Daytona Beach Home?

6/7/2020 (Permalink)

When your home is flooded, some panic is inevitable. Stay calm and contact our certified SERVPRO technicians for water removal services.

SERVPRO Removes Moisture from Wall Cavities in Daytona Beach

Living in Florida, many homes are constructed out of concrete blocks, so when there is a leak in your kitchen or bathroom, the moisture removal techniques may vary from other methods. SERVPRO technicians use moisture detection equipment to sense the presence of water and measure the amount of moisture remaining in the walls. That way, they can treat the impacted area, mitigating further damage such as the moisture spreading throughout the rest of the wall.

Do I have to Remove the Drywall?

SERVPRO restoration specialists remove the affected drywall and about twelve inches around the area as part of their water removal process in Daytona Beach. By removing the drywall, they have access to address the moisture inside the walls. Depending on the structure of your home, you may have insulation. Technicians remove damaged insulation and then begin the task of drying the wall cavities.

How Do SERVPRO Technicians Dry the Wall Cavities?

  • They remove excess moisture with portable wand extraction equipment.
  • They use air moving equipment to blow warm, dry air into the wall cavities.
  • Sometimes technicians use ventilating systems under positive pressure to blow air through hoses to target specific areas.
  • Technicians use dehumidifiers to pull moisture from the air and exhaust warm, dry air.

Why is it Important to Dry the Cavities in Concrete Blocks?

  • The semi-porous block surface can hold moisture.
  • The moisture can cause the blocks to lose structural integrity and eventually may begin to crumble.
  • The moisture can break through vapor barriers and drywall, causing damage.
  • Possible mold growth

Our IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification) technicians create a specific plan for your home, considering drying factors such as the structure's building envelope, the amount of air that can get through the concrete blocks and impact drying conditions. Our goal is to make it "Like it never even happened."

Are Unpleasant Smells in my Daytona Beach Home Worth Investigating?

5/24/2020 (Permalink)

“Like it never even happened.”

Unpleasant Smells in Certain Areas of your Daytona Beach Home can Indicate a Slow Leak or Water Problem

Where does that smell come from?

When parts of a home become odorous, they can often be showing symptoms of a deeper issue. Homeowners that suspect water damage in their Daytona Beach property can benefit from enlisting professional help early on to prevent permanent harm. Homes have numerous irrigation systems, plumbing systems, and electrical systems within the walls. A fault with one of these systems may not be immediately noticeable in your day to day life. However, over time they can lead to significant damage from rotting, water logging, mold growth, and warping.

What are the signs that I have a leak or loose pipe in your plumbing system?

    •    A spike in your water bill is a tell-tale sign that there is a leak or malfunction in your plumbing system
    •    Unpleasant odors emanating from areas of the home which return persistently, even after cleaning
    •    Discoloration or cracking in the paintwork on the ceilings or walls
    •    Low water pressure from your faucets or into your boiler
    •    Unusual noises when running water in the house

What happens if I leave a slow leak without getting a repair?

Slow leaks get progressively worse as time passes. In some situations, leaving a slow leak can result in permanent damages, which cost far more to replace or repair. Rusting, for example, can initiate from a slow leak but, over time, spread throughout the plumbing system, causing significant damage. There may also be issues with water hygiene when using taps from a plumbing system with leaking pipes. Finally, microbes inside water can proliferate in walls and require expensive remediation.

What professional services can I use to restore water damage from a leaking pipe?

SERVPRO technicians are qualified by The Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certifications (IICRC) operatives. We can inspect your property for potential water loss areas, and perform the necessary techniques to remove drywall, dry the affected area, and perform the reinstallation. Our team works closely with your insurer and can even pass on the paperwork for a stress-free claim.

If you suspect a slow leak in your property, do not hesitate to contact SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993.

Our homes are full of furniture, Knick knacks, and all of the things we collect in our lives. So when a water leak occurs, these items need to be dried and moved to a dry location to enable drying of the floors and the structure. A water leak can spread water all over the house in a matter of hours, covering the floor, penetrating walls and seeping under cupboards soaking everything on the floor.

Are leaking pipes causing water damage? SERVPRO can remove the water and dry your home quickly!

Water Removal in Daytona Beach

Living on the East Coast of Florida near the water means that even inside your home, your pipes contact salt air and high humidity levels. When salt corrodes pipes, and they spring a leak, water can impact flooring, walls, and even furniture. Due to Florida's unique climate extracting water from your home can be difficult as there is typically a higher than average moisture levels in the air.

If you find yourself in need of water removal in Daytona Beach, SERVPRO technicians can thoroughly extract moisture from the materials, contents, and air within your home, restoring the moisture and relative humidity levels to pre-damage status. Our skilled technicians understand that drying the structure quickly to prevent secondary water damage such as mold growth and drywall softening. We have the Mold Remediation license #MRSR515.

The SERVPRO restoration team removes as much water as possible by passing over the affected areas multiple times with a portable extractor. The extractor works on floors and other surfaces. It has three major components; a heater, pump, and vacuum system. However, in water damage mitigation situations, only the vacuum is used during the water removal process. However, if carpets or upholstery need cleaning, the technicians use all three components.

Technicians measure relative humidity (RH) and moisture levels throughout the home, in both the affected and unaffected areas to determine a drying goal. Ideally, RH levels in a home are below 60 percent, and the drying goal is within a few percentages of that. After removing as much water as possible, SERVPRO technicians place air movers and dehumidifiers throughout the home, pulling water vapors out of the air and pushing dry, warm air throughout the treatment area to rid the environment of any excess moisture.

SERVPRO focuses on restoration rather than replacement of damaged items and understands the importance of mitigating damages quickly. We're Faster To Any Size Disaster. We also understand the importance of removing water and restoring the right relative humidity levels before mold growth occurs.

Some of our equipment has such devices built into their front panels, allowing us to make sure that drying is happening on schedule.

We understand that such accidents can mean unplanned inconveniences that affect every member of your family. Our teams work in tandem to make this as pleasant and productive as possible. We point out safety risks and concerns so that you can avoid any such risks. Water can affect a house in various ways, and some of these, until we finish mitigation and restoration work, can cause harm or injuries.

Professionals Describe How You Can Conduct Water Cleanup In Ormond Beach

Whenever excessive moisture makes its way into your Ormond Beach residence, it can get many of your contents and building materials wet causing them to have to be either dried out or removed and replaced. During most disasters like this, it is wise to call in a professional water cleanup company such as SERVPRO because We're Faster To Any Size Disaster. However, if the damage is minor, there are things you can do yourself.

If water cleanup inside your Ormond Beach home gets conducted properly by you, then you can reduce the chances of having to call a company like SERVPRO in the future for secondary damage like mold growth. During any mitigation project, whether it is large or small, removing moisture rapidly is the key to preventing secondary problems. So as soon as you notice moisture where it is not supposed to be, it is wise to start cleaning it up.

First off, it is good to start removing any standing water that you may see. If the standing water is more than two inches deep, then it can help to pump it out with a submersible pump. If you do not own a sump pump or trash pump, then you can rent one from a hardware store. Once you get a pump, put it in the standing water and run the exhaust hose so that the liquid waste goes into a sewage drain such as your toilet. Turn the pump on and let it pump all of the standing water in the affected area into the toilet or another sewage drain for water cleanup.

Next, it is wise to remove any other visible water that is inside your house. For example, if you see water on a hard surface floor like concrete or linoleum, you can use a mop or a squeegee. If the amount of liquid is excessive, it can help to use a squeegee to push the water to the outside or into a floor drain. For any excess moisture that remains, using a mop to soak it up can be helpful.

When disasters are small, it is possible for you to handle the situation yourself. However, in the case of larger, more severe incidents it is wise to call SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993 because we can help you return your house to the way it was before "Like it never even happened."

Over time, the microbes present in water can multiply, causing malodor, staining, or mold growth. Managing these problems is best left to a professional who can predict possible outcomes and perform the tasks that are essential to returning your home to its preloss condition.

We own and operate a local solution for water damage in Ormond Beach. Time can often be a significant factor in the scale of harm caused to property from moisture, so it is crucial to bring in professional assistance as quickly as possible. SERVPRO technicians are trained to identify potential areas of concern as well as experienced in controlling humidity and removing excess moisture from home. By doing so, we can not only restore the property but also control microbial growth and prevent secondary mold issues.

The primary method of removing excess moisture is by manipulating airflow and humidity levels to encourage evaporation. Rapid air movers use centrifugal motion alongside a heating element to create rapid airflow. The increased air circulation lifts moisture from the surface while increasing surface temperature, from the heating element, pulls more moisture out of the surface. The combination of the two can be a formidable method of drying a large surface area rapidly.

Water moves from wet to dry and can be absorbed by various surfaces, furniture, and fabrics. Desiccant dehumidifiers can help to dry the air to below 40 grains per pound chemically. By doing so, absorbed moisture can be drawn out of hard floors or fabrics as water moves from wet to dry. This exchange of moisture can be vital in controlling secondary damages like microbial growth, odor, and mold.

Property restoration requires professional equipment and expertise. Contact SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993 today to arrange a visit from a local technician.

Water Cleanup Professionals In Ormond Beach Explain The Importance Of Final Cleaning

If excessive moisture ever enters your home in Ormond Beach, the problems can become a major headache and expense to you and your insurance company. Calling in a professional water cleanup company such as SERVPRO can help save you and your insurer money. When most people think of restoring the damage, they think of fixing the problems directly occurred by contact with moisture. Whereas many issues can get created by objects getting wet inside your house, other situations can occur after the drying process has proved to be successful. A major part of any water cleanup process is the final cleaning and deodorization procedures.

Our team as SERVPRO always strives to return your house to its preloss state, “Like it never even happened.” The initial water cleanup process in Ormond Beach does matter a lot because we can prevent future, secondary issues during this stage. However, even after your building materials and contents get all of the moisture removed from them, other problems such as dirty items or foul odors can still prevail. Once things get wet, they can attract dirt and dust from the air and become soiled. When dealing with porous materials, mildew-like aromas can be prevalent after the substances get dried out.

During most restoration procedures, our SERVPRO technicians complete carpet and fabric cleaning as a part of the final cleansing and deodorization process. During this stage, we use our truck-mounted, carpet cleaning machine to remove stains and odors from your carpeting materials. An essential step of the carpet cleaning process is the rinsing stage.

If carpets or fabrics do not get rinsed adequately, dirt can be easily attracted to the clean materials. We always use water and an advanced rinsing agent to ensure the best quality final cleaning job. In many restoration situations, we use a fabric rinse and color set chemical. Our industrially advanced chemical formula is a pleasant-scented acid that is often used in cleaning fabrics and rinsing carpets.

Anytime you need moisture removed from your structural components or building materials, call in the experts at SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993 shortly after you notice a moisture-related issue.

SERVPRO Can Help When the sink in your kitchen Causes Flooding.

6/7/2019 (Permalink)

Save the swimming lessons for the beach, not your home.

Don’t let your home overtake you with water damage.

Hoses and pipes on your home appliances experience heavy usage in their lifetime and can eventually fail. A broken hose on a dishwasher, sink, or washing machine can output large quantities of water in a short period of time, causing havoc in your household. The clean up and restoration process after such an event is bound to be stressful, so it is usually best to leave the clean up to professionals.

If you ever experience water damage in your Ormond Beach home, then you should contact professionals from SERVPRO. Our water damage restoration technicians (WRT) have experience in water damage emergencies and can quickly arrive at your home to begin the clean up process. Most homes have walls made out of drywall with insulation tucked away behind it. Once water from your broken appliance begins to pool, it can seep through drywall and into the wall cavities and insulation, potentially causing irreversible damage. Insulation is designed to resist heat flow, helping keep your home temperature constant. Water can permanently reduce the resistance to heat flow (R-value) of non-fiberglass insulation, requiring it to be stripped out of your walls and discarded.

SERVPRO technicians are Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) certified and can force excess moisture from your walls with air movers and dehumidifiers. Flooding from a broken appliance is usually not too severe and we can often sometimes dry out affected insulation without the need for it to be stripped and replaced. To ensure that your walls are completely dry, we can search for excess moisture with moisture meters and can drill holes in your walls to facilitate the removal of additional water we detect. This has the added benefit of helping prevent the growth of mold in your walls.

SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach/Ormond Beach is here to help if something has broken in your home and caused water damage. If you have a water-related emergency, don't hesitate to contact us at any time at (386) 677-9993.

Water, Water Everywhere and How to Remove it From Your Daytona Property

11/13/2018 (Permalink)

Water in this office was no match for SERVPRO.

Article title: How to Manage Water Removal in Daytona's Commercial and Private Properties

Water spills are not easy to prepare for with the majority of cases occurring from seemingly random events. A burst or split pipe, for example, can cause massive amounts of water to leak rapidly into your home and onto your contents. Equally, natural events like heavy rainfall can result in flooding. Whatever the causes, one thing is sure. Private residents and commercial property owners should familiarize themselves with restoration services to react quickly to unforeseen events.

When we arrange a service for water removal in Daytona, we rely on getting as much information as possible during the initial call. Collecting information on the type of water, its source, as well as the size of the affected area, is crucial in the planning stages. SERVPRO is a localized service that has access to national resources, so no disaster is too big or too small for us. What we do need to know is the scale of your requirements. SERVPRO can usually arrive at your property with the necessary equipment within four hours of notification of loss.

The level of standing water is an important measurement that we take. For standing water over two inches high, the fastest way to remove it is using submersible gas powered pumps. These useful pieces of equipment can drain gallons of water in minutes rather than hours, transporting excess water into a nearby utility hole or open sewer point like your bathroom.

Standing water that is less than two inches high requires a different approach. SERVPRO uses extraction equipment to remove smaller spills. These devices use suction, heating and targeted wands to remove and dry moisture quickly. Available in large truck mounted or accurate portable units, extractors can remove water without damaging your fittings. Fabrics, for example, are up to 50% weaker when wet. Using a softer approach can help reduce the likelihood of permanent damage and fits our ethos of restoring over replacing.

For a thoroughly professional service using exceptional equipment contact SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993.

When accidents happen inside your Ormond Beach home, one of the worst kinds involve displaced water.

Water Cleanup Services

When accidents happen inside your Ormond Beach home, one of the worst kinds involve displaced water. Floods carry some of the dirtiest water, but toilets and drain that back up can also inundate your home with pathogens and other contamination. Cleaner water still can cause extensive damages, so acting as quickly as possible significantly helps reduce the amount of restoration your home needs after such an incident.

Protecting your Ormond Beach home from exposure to invasive water happens faster when you use professional water cleanup and removal services. SERVPRO technicians can perform all of the work needed quickly and efficiently. We not only have all of the skills necessary to ensure we do an excellent job for you, but we also have the latest equipment necessary for such work.

Extracting visible water does not finish the job entirely – we must also get the affected belongings and materials within your home dried out. SERVPRO's Green Fleet carries our equipment to your home and is also part of some of the equipment we use in restoring your home. Our largest capacity extraction pump is mounted on one of our trucks. We can also generate our own electricity to run the equipment used in your property when power grids are down temporarily.

Air movers help dry things out efficiently because they keep moisture off surfaces and in the air where our desiccant machines can extract it from the air. Creating higher rates of evaporation also works in drying out saturated materials more rapidly than merely allowing them to dry naturally. While we air out your home's interior, enclosed spaces can continue to retain trapped moisture. We push flexible tubes into small holes made in walls so we can then force warm air through them. The air exits out another small hole and takes the moisture with it. The heated air helps evaporate any water left behind after we drain water through tiny holes drilled into the wall near the floor after we remove the baseboards.

These techniques and others work well for any amount of water your home experiences in a disaster. SERVPRO technicians can help get things back to normal inside your residence and make it all “Like it never even happened.” SERVPRO has experience dealing with both large and small emergencies and all categories of water.

Call the professionals at SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach at (386) 677-9993 when you need water cleanup and removal services to protect your home. Disasters happen without warning, so we are always available to help you, every day of the year.

Water Leaks and Detection

8/1/2018 (Permalink)

Dehumidifiers help "pull" moisture out of the air.

Small or big leaks, they all can be big left unattended!  A leak from a hole that is 1/16" in diameter in a water pipe can pour 822 gallons of water a day into your home causing extensive damage!

With any leak or spill, it’s the water you can’t see that can cause the most damage. In order to find the materials that are wet SERVPRO of North Daytona / Ormond Beach utilizes several different types of Moisture Meters. There are two main types, pin-type and pin less.  Pin-type Moisture Meters measure the resistance between test pins inserted into a piece of wood/building material and use that reading as a proxy for the object’s absolute moisture level. Pin less Moisture Meters rely on the ability of moisture to inductively distort an electric field created by turning on the meter.    But mainly the moisture meters will tell you when something is wet and how wet, so you can find any hidden wet spots in your home.  While the surface may seem dry, the water you don’t see can contain bacteria, cause mold or rot, and cause other unseen damage that must be mitigated immediately.

At SERVPRO of North Daytona/Ormond Beach we have the tools to find where any water is lurking from a water event and can come out and asses the drying needs of both commercial and residential buildings so we can make it "Like it never even happened." visit us at www.SERVPROnorthdaytonabeachormondbeach.com

Water Damage Drying Equipment

4/9/2018 (Permalink)

Water damage equipment drying walls, ceiling and hardwood floors.

During Water Restoration it is very important to set up Drying Equipment right away.  Drying involves the Removal of Water.  The Drying Equipment Lowers the Humidity and Traps the Moisture in the Air.  Any standing water should be extracted prior to any Drying Equipment placement.

In order to dry certain materials you must prepare to remove moisture from the air.  Setting up a Drying Chamber around the affected Area will contain the moisture in the air.  Drying Equipment is placed within the Drying Chamber to Heat Up and Extract that moisture from the air and materials. All the Equipment work hand in hand together.

Drying Equipment is placed to dry Carpets, Drywall, Wood and Framing.  Specialty Drying Equipment can also be placed to tackle unique drying challenges.  Especially when you are attempting to dry certain materials like Hardwood Floors, Tile, Inside Walls or Under Cabinets.  The correct type equipment and amount of equipment are critical for a balanced drying system the air movers pushing air over the materials create the evaporation of water from the materials to be dried once this has happened the dehumidifiers can then remove the water from the air that has been evaporated from the wet materials if there is not enough air movers then the evaporation slows down and there is not enough water in the air for the  dehumidifiers if there are to many air movers creating to much evaporation and not enough dehumidification then the building sweat and not drying rapidly this is why a balanced drying system is important for water damage restoration to be successful at SERVPRO north Daytona/ Ormond beach we have trained technicians that can accomplish this for rapid drying in most water damage situations

http://webstore.IICRC.org/index.php/historical-standards/IICRC-s500-standard-and-reference-guide-for-professional-water-damage-restoration-second-edition-1999-pdf-adobe-drm.html

It is very important to never turn off the Drying Equipment during the Drying Process.  If the Process is stopped you will need to start the Process all over again.

Water Removal from Water-soaked Leather Items in Daytona Homes

11/17/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO has specialized equipment and technology to restore your leather furniture from water damage.

Daytona Water Removal Services Include Restoring Water-Soaked Leather Furniture

Daytona homeowners normally have a difficult time cleaning water-damaged leather items when a flooding event occurs, primarily due to the complexities at play. Leather is a soft, limber material created from the skin of different animals, such as goats, sheep, pigs, or cows. It is treated to produce the soft surface that is popularly seen in coverings for clothing, furniture, and accessories like purses. Leather is very absorbent and tends to stain easily, leading to marks if water spills onto the material.

If any of your leather items sustain water damage, you can count on SERVPRO for water removal and drying services. Our IICRC-certified technicians are available 24/7, providing water damage restoration services to Daytona residents and its environs. We're Faster to Any Size Disaster, ready to restore your property to preloss conditions as quickly and efficiently as possible.

When an animal is alive, its natural oils lubricate the microscopic fibers that hold leather together. During the tanning process, these oils are washed away and then replaced with others. When the material comes into contact with water, it partially dissolves these oils and moves them to the surface, causing them to evaporate. During this time, the bonds between the fibers loosen, leaving the leather stiff and cracked. This weakening of fibers is irreversible.

Water damage from water spills is not usually a major cause for concern when it comes to leather. In fact, most leather products come with a protective layer that makes it possible to clean up water spills before the material absorbs the liquid. However, flooded leather furniture is highly susceptible to water damage and requires immediate water removal. The minerals and contaminants in the water can damage the foam and frame in the furniture, resulting in a costly repair.

Water damage from clean water is relatively easy to fix. SERVPRO technicians can often determine the extent of the water damage by the presence of a bad odor, which may require replacing the foam and/or frame altogether. This is typically applicable in cases where the furniture is particularly expensive. If there is no smell but the piece still looks bad, our experts can retouch that part.

Remediating Everyday Water Damage in Daytona

10/22/2017 (Permalink)

Experience has shown us that a quick response to your water damage emergency results in the most successful outcome. Call SERVPRO right away.

Our Technicians are Very Responsive to Your Water Overflow Emergency to Prevent Secondary Damages From Forming

Although they get most of the press, big storms are responsible for far fewer water damage events than slow leaks and appliance malfunctions. You can survive the hurricane season with nary an issue, then wake up to inches of water because the dishwasher overflowed overnight. Either way, you need our help.

We offer our best technicians and most efficient equipment to solve your Daytona water damage woes regardless of their source. The first step is to call for help fast, because water damage gets progressively worse the longer you wait to fix it. The wooden floor in your kitchen, for example, bounces back after professional water extraction and an afternoon of drying with air movers and a drying mat if we start our work within hours of the overflow. Hardwoods are naturally resistant to brief soakings.

If you wait for a few days thinking you can manage on your own, it is likely you begin to see evidence of permanent water damage. The individual planks swell with water that saturates the sub-floor, pushing up the center of each plank or “crowning.” Alternatively, the planks pull apart, curling up at the edges or “cupping.” Because the water was not eradicated, you now have a situation where some flooring may need to be removed and new sections laid to keep a surfaces level.

SERVPRO technicians avoid this type of water damage by using tools like floor drying mats or positioning air movers and dehumidifiers to pull the moisture out of the wood fibers. We might pull up a few planks to allow air to circulate under the wood and to dry the subfloor. Sometimes we drill small holes in a finished floor to urge evaporation.

Leaving even a bit of moisture risks exposing your home to mold damage. The moisture is the accelerant to one or more microscopic mold spores. Spores are always in the air or lying on surfaces, causing little trouble as long as they stay dry. Once they are activated by water, they multiply rapidly. If the water soaking the floor is rich in nutrients, like the dishwater, the mold may grow faster. Ordinary items can cause extraordinary damage. SERVPRO mold remediation teams contain and remove colonies, but to avoid more microbial infestations, the water damage must be eliminated more quickly.

Respond immediately to spills and overflows with the help of SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach. Do not let a simple accident become a catastrophe by calling (386) 677-9993.

Restoring Your Home with Water Removal Services in Daytona Beach

Water Removal in Daytona Beach Is Speedily Done by SERVPRO

Many Factors Need Addressing for a Thorough Water Remediation Service

Standing water inside your Daytona Beach home because of broken water lines is a waking nightmare no homeowner wants. The more time between the break and its discovery adds to the mess created, as more and more water accumulates inside your home's walls. Of course, shutting off the water at the main valve is the first step, but restoring your home only starts there.

Homes in Daytona Beach are typically well-kept, but only a professional water removal team like SERVPRO can keep water from broken plumbing lines from destroying your home. We have all of the equipment needed to carry out even the worst case scenarios.

Measuring the amount of moisture in a home is important because removal must include more than the standing water alone. Reduction to normal readings of moisture in the air must always occur to prevent future damage, and our equipment enables us to do this task accurately. We know that many people are familiar with the large pump trucks used in water removal, but smaller-sized pieces of equipment also play a crucial role.

It is challenging to restore a water-saturated home with standing water and elevated levels of moisture without using dehumidifiers, large air blowers, heating pads for soaked flooring, and air scrubbers that clean the air of microbes. Each of these items plays a vital role in our work, and we ensure that all members of our teams have the IICRC certifications required to meet our high standards of customer satisfaction.

Moisture meters are also part of our equipment, revealing to us how high humidity levels are. Dehumidification strips the water from the air, but in homes that have had water problems, odors can remain behind. Our odor specialist can ensure that your home smells perfect after restoration is complete. Using machines that generate hydroxyl, a safe gas for use around carpets, pets, and even people, your home will soon smell like it should. For persistent odors, there are other methods that we can put to use for you.

SERVPRO of North Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach is here to help you by restoring your home. Water removal is much easier with the proper tools, equipment, and training than just allowing things to dry out on their own. Call us day or night, any day of the year, at (386) 677-9993, and we can restore your home in Ormand Beach or Daytona Beach, no matter how severe the catastrophe.

Local College Flood

12/16/2016 (Permalink)

Classrooms were heavily affected but because of quick thinking by the school damage was minimized.

It was a normal Friday at the local college, classes were almost finished for the day and faculty was getting ready to head home. One of the maintenance men noticed a pump from the water tank was showing low pressure and as a back up two more pumps came online to make up the difference. What was happening? A pipe burst inside of a maintenance room of the science building. Unfortunately the door were closed and the room began to fill with water until it reached approximately 6-7ft and a wall gave way releasing over 10,000 gallons of water into the 1st floor of the building. The fast acting faculty immediately got the pumps turned off and called SERVPRO Daytona Beach. Within an hour SERVPRO was on site and extracting water and by Monday just three days later the school was able to hold some classes in the building and by Friday the entire floor was open again. SERVPRO Daytona Beach is the #1 trusted restoration company in Volusia County and trusted by more local businesses than anyone else.
